Ecodesign stoves have been specifically designed to significantly cut greenhouse gas contributions and air pollutants such as carbon monoxide (CO), nitric oxide and nitrogen dioxide (NOx), organic gaseous carbon (OGC) and particulates (PM) whilst at the same time being as energy efficient as possible. The Hi-Flame Brogan (WF905) is a 5kW Ecodesign wood burning stove built around the same 905-series fire chamber engine that has made Hi-Flame stoves a trusted choice for thousands of homes across the UK and Ireland. A large cast iron door frames a generous glass area, so you see the fire properly, not just a glimpse of it, and the overall styling is clean and contemporary without chasing trends it can't sustain.
The Brogan's combustion system is the same proven platform used across the 905-series range: pre-heated tertiary air jets in the cast iron rear back-plate keep the fire chamber hot throughout the burn cycle, which is why the glass stays clear even as the fire dies down. A single drop-down baffle keeps flueway cleaning simple and allows the chimney to be swept directly through the stove.
Where most stoves ask you to manage two or three separate controls, the Brogan does it with one. A single slider below the door governs the entire air supply, primary boost, secondary airwash, and tertiary combustion air, all from one intuitive control. Turn it up for a rapid light-off, ease it back for a slow steady burn. It sounds like a small thing. In everyday use, it transforms how easy the stove is to live with.
Direct external air supply (DEAS) is built in as standard. That means the Brogan can be installed in post-2008 homes without the need to cut an additional vent into the room. It also qualifies for installation on a 12mm non-combustible hearth, subject to Building Regulations.
Features
5kW nominal heat output, 76.2% net efficiency
Ecodesign Ready — independently tested by EU Notified Laboratory
DEFRA approved
Multi-fuel: wood and smokeless coal
Highly responsive and controllable heat output — precise management from low simmer to full burn
Pre-heated tertiary air system — burns off unburnt gases for lower emissions and more heat from every log
Pre-heated airwash system for clear glass
'Heat Conveyor' system — moves radiated heat around the room faster
Single drop-down baffle — simple cleaning, easy sweeping access
Single-slider air control — governs primary, secondary, and tertiary air from one intuitive lever
Top or rear 125mm flue outlet
Cast iron door and rear back-plate; premium plate steel bodywork
Multi-fuel grate with separate ash pan
Direct external air supply (DEAS) built in as standard — no room vent required in most post-2008 homes
Adjustable feet for uneven hearths
Suitable for 12mm non-combustible hearth (subject to Building Regulations)
5-year warranty
Generation note: The original Brogan (Gen 1, up to August 2025) featured two separate air controls — a primary air boost lever on the door and a secondary/tertiary slider below. The current Brogan (Gen 2, from August 2025) uses a single slider to control all air — primary, secondary, and tertiary. Some product images may show the Gen 1 version with the door-mounted lever.
